Circular polarization immunity of the cyclotron resonance photoconductivity in two-dimensional electron systems

Studying the cyclotron resonance (CR) induced photoconductivity in GaAs and HgTe two-dimensional electron structures under circularly polarized terahertz illumination, we observed an anomalous resonant photoresponse for CR inactive helicity of almost same magnitude as active helicity. This observation conflicts with simultaneous transmission measurements fundamentally contradicts conventional theory CR. We provide a possible route to explain such basic failure description light-matter interaction discuss modified dynamics near strong impurities that may local near-field coupling two modes. should result enhanced absorption both magnetic field polarities.
